What Is PRSWellington
We want to encourage radio enthusiasts interested in getting 'on the air'!!!
About Us
PRSWellington is a friendly community group based around the common joy of operating UHF PRS Radio Equipment in the Greater Wellington area. We are interested raising the awareness in radio as a hobby at the same time providing a useful community resource for all to enjoy.
Projects
A small band of dedicated radio enthusiasts have setup the Wellington Channel 8 PRS repeater on the Western Hutt hills. A big thanks to Bruce and John for making a dream like this reality. Through this project, we hope to connect with new radio operators to help encourage and demonstrate as to how a repeater works while also providing a useful community resource that can be utilized for events or disaster relief efforts.
Inspiration
We encourage both new and existing radio enthusiasts to get on the air and learn more about radio through public events and projects with the
Goals
Our goal is to help people learn about radio by providing useful information and resources and services, encourage people to take up radio as a hobby and enjoy using the local repeater, and ultimately encouraging people to get into Amateur ("Ham") radio as a hobby.
UHF PRS Ch: 8 Repeater.
Here are some pictures taken by John Wysocki.
John imported the (very expensive) duplexer filters that allows the repeater receiver and transmitter to run on a single antenna simultaneously without causing cross interference.
The duplexer is the square box with the coiled cables on top.
This device is by far the most important (and expensive!) item of equipment that makes up the PRS Channel 8 repeater.
PRSWellington Repeater Coverage Mapping Project
Can you help!!!
We are trying to map the coverage area of the Wellington PRS Channel 8 Repeater…
If you have had good reception somewhere… please let us know about it,
this will help us build our database of good reception locations.
