“on-the-air”

PRSWellington "Radio Net"

Net Operation

A radio net, or simply net, is an “on-the-air” gathering of radio operators. Most nets convene on a regular schedule and specific frequency or channel, and are organized for a particular purpose, such as relaying messages, discussing a common topic of interest, or simply as a regular gathering of friends for conversation.

PRSWellington's Sunday Night Net on Channel 8 is no different. It's a great way to keep everyone up-to-date with happenings and a good way to meet and catch-up with other operators.

  • PRSWellington Radio Net Controller Operator Instructions

  • Put a call out in the lead up to the net (half an hour to an hour out) to let

people to know it is on, what time it is on and encourage operators to tune in.

  • 5-10 minutes out from scheduled net start time put a call out to let operators

know there is a scheduled net about to start and to standby to register with

        the net controller.

  • At 8:00pm put a call out declaring the net open for registrations and asking for

        call-signs/names.

  • (As operators register by calling in and giving you their name/call-sign, record

the order in which they call. This will become the order in which the stations

         rotate through the calling cycle.

  • After you (the Net Controller) have taken registrations, and it looks unlikely

there will be any more registrations from stations. Put a call out welcoming

everyone and announcing the names/call-signs of the stations that have

registered in the order in which the net is to rotate.

  • Introduce the first station on your list and hand it over to them to start the rotation.

  • After the first round, reopen the net for any late registrations and add them to the bottom of your list.

  • After this is done, proceed with the second round of the net.

  • Note: after each round have your turn and hand it over to the first operator on your list to start the next round.

                                                                       Easy!

.....Got a cool Idea or Event for PRS! Let us know and we can post it here.....

It's simple, Sunday Night at 8pm call the net organizer on channel 8 and give him your name and call-sign. Look forward to hearing you on the air.
